I had a customer that wanted me to install a kitchen exhaust fan in her retro kitchen. When I looked at where the fan was going, I realized the existing electrical box would need to be moved up and over a couple of inches. She had replaced a vintage 1960 stove with a new one and the exhaust fan would need to be moved over. Here are a few images showing the basic process. Please forgive not having a better before picture originally this was just supposed to be an exhaust fan install.

This is as close as we have for a before picture, but you can see me taping the kitchen off to prevent drywall dust from getting everywhere.

Needed to move it just a couple of inches...

I pulled out my trusty laser level to make sure i centered the fan and especially the chimney above the stove.

The customer decided to make a small change and instead of having me paint the patch the buttercream yellow that was already there, decided to go with an orange accent wall to bring some flair into her kitchen. I tape off everything as well as use drop cloths to make sure her kitchen floor doesn't change colors to match her wall!

After two coats were finished and a magnetic knife holder was hung, here is the finished accent wall. The customer will have me build a custom cabinet to fit the very narrow space between the cabinet and the stove, just has not decided what she wants it to look like.
